Don Mattrick has been described as “a division head who lives like a Saudi prince”.
Fast Company’s profile of the former Xbox boss claims that he takes a private jet to work and frequently name-drops celebrity friends.
It also reveals that he lives in the largest house in British Columbia, valued at $28m (£18.6m). He is said to have a ten-car garage and own a collection of Ferraris, Lamborghinis and Lotuses.
According to Fast Company, he claims Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and Wayne Gretzy, a famous former Canadian NHL player are close friends.
He is described by associates as having “this really ambitious vision”, and of being “just relentless, dogged about pushing people beyond their comfort zones”. He is also accused of “scaring the crap out of people” to ensure targets are met.
It’s not all bad though. Mattrick, unsuprisingly, is said to love games. According to his former colleague at Microsoft Phil Spencer: “If you want to see the man light up, walk him into a development studio”.
Mattrick recently left Microsoft to join social gaming firm Zynga as its new chief executive.
It had been rumoured that he was fired after the Xbox One debacle. However, that was dismissed by later reports that he left after failing to secure a more substantial role in Steve Ballmer’s recent reshuffling at Microsoft.
Yesterday it was announced that Microsoft Windows boss Julie Larson-Green would be taking over the new hardware division at Microsoft, which includes the Xbox business.
